How to choose the perfect awning for your terrace

Choosing the right awning is essential to fully enjoy your terrace or balcony on the Costa del Sol. The privileged climate of Marbella allows us to spend a lot of time outdoors, but it requires effective and lasting sun protection.

Key factors to consider

Orientation and Sun

The direction your terrace faces will determine the type of shade you need. A south-facing terrace will receive direct sun during the middle hours of the day, requiring canvases with high UV protection and sturdy structures. East or west orientations require controlling the lower sun at sunrise or sunset.

Wind, a critical factor

In coastal areas, wind can be a challenge. For highly exposed terraces, we recommend awnings with reinforced arms or wind sensors that automatically retract the awning when gusts exceed the safety limit.

Types of canvas

The choice of fabric is vital. Solution-dyed acrylic canvases are the best option for our climate: they maintain their color against intense sun, are water-repellent and breathable, avoiding the greenhouse effect under the awning.

Cassette systems

To extend the life of your awning, the cassette system is ideal. When the awning is retracted, both the arms and the canvas are hermetically protected inside an aluminum box, keeping them safe from salt, rain and dirt.
